裸腹原缨口鳅为爬鳅科鱼类，安静但会守护自己选定的栖石，原生分布于中国南方山溪。吸盘状腹部为适应山溪急流而生，温暖静水对它比疾病更致命。成体约 7.4–10.8 cm，单养或松散小群，取决于石头数量，适宜水温 18–26 °C。水流、溶氧和低温，三者缺一不可。
A Balitoridae species native to southern Chinese mountain streams: Vanmanenia gymnetrus lives bottom-dwelling on rock surfaces over fast-flowing mountain streams, clinging to rocks. Calm but assertive around its chosen perch. Adults reach 7.4–10.8 cm. It is one of the aquarium-kept Vanmanenia species we profile, alongside Vanmanenia pingchowensis, Vanmanenia stenosoma, Vanmanenia intermedia.

成体 7.4–10.8 cm 左右，因其Bottom-dwelling on rock surfaces的习性，140 L 以上的缸更合适。
