保亭近腹吸鳅为爬鳅科鱼类，安静但会守护自己选定的栖石，原生分布于中国海南水系。喜欢急流、凉爽、高溶氧的水环境，高温是最大的敌人。成体约 2.8–4.2 cm，单养或松散小群，取决于石头数量，适宜水温 18–26 °C。水流、溶氧和低温，三者缺一不可。
