弹涂鱼为虾虎鱼科鱼类，安静的底栖居民，领域边界分明，原生分布于中国东南沿海滩涂。底栖栖息者，终日穿梭于岩石、缸壁与洞穴之间，造景决定它的性情。成体约 11.5–16.8 cm，建议单养或成对，每尾都要有自己的洞穴，适宜水温 18–26 °C。一鱼一洞，万事大吉。
From the waters of muddy coasts of SE China comes Periophthalmus modestus, a member of the family Gobiidae. A benthic percher that spends its days darting between rock, glass and cave — structure decides its temperament. It lives on the bottom. Adults reach 11.5–16.8 cm. Singly or in pairs; every fish needs its own refuge. Caves, stable pairs and clean sand keep this fish far calmer than open, bare tanks ever will. Maintain 18–26 °C at pH 6.5–7.5. A rewarding species for the aquarist who reads before buying.
