鲈鲤为鲤科鱼类，大体型温和鱼，但会捕食能吞下的小鱼，原生分布于中国云南水系。故乡的水来自融雪：凉爽、湍急、溶氧饱和。成体约 33–48.4 cm，成体需要较大活动空间，适宜水温 18–26 °C。降温比喂食更重要。
Percocypris pingi, a member of the family Cyprinidae, comes from Yunnan, China, where it inhabits clear streams and rivers over gravel. Generally peaceful but predatory on small fish and omnivore leaning carnivorous — pellets plus fish and vegetable matter, it grows to 33–48.4 cm and adapts well to a properly set-up aquarium in the 18–26 °C range.
