短身金沙鳅为爬鳅科鱼类，温和，仅对喜欢的石头有领域性，原生分布于中国长江上游。吸盘状腹部为适应山溪急流而生，温暖静水对它比疾病更致命。成体约 11.6–16.9 cm，建议一石一鱼，或 3 尾以上分散领域，适宜水温 18–26 °C。水流、溶氧和低温，三者缺一不可。
Jinshaia abbreviata, a member of the family Balitoridae, comes from upper Yangtze, China, where it inhabits fast-flowing mountain streams, clinging to rocks. Peaceful; territorial only over a favourite stone and herbivorous grazer — aufwuchs, algae wafers, vegetable matter, it grows to 11.6–16.9 cm and adapts well to a properly set-up aquarium in the 18–26 °C range. Other Jinshaia species in our database include Jinshaia sinensis.
