日本杜父鱼为Cottidae鱼类，除争夺藏身处外基本平和，原生分布于日本。底栖栖息者，终日穿梭于岩石、缸壁与洞穴之间，造景决定它的性情。成体约 4–8 cm，成对或小群饲养，需提供充足藏身处，适宜水温 20–26 °C。一鱼一洞，万事大吉。
Cottidae species Cottus pollux comes from Japan. A benthic percher that spends its days darting between rock, glass and cave — structure decides its temperament. It swims in mid-water. Adults reach 4–8 cm. Pairs or small groups with ample hiding spots. Caves, stable pairs and clean sand keep this fish far calmer than open, bare tanks ever will. Maintain 20–26 °C at pH 6.5–7.5. Undemanding once its core needs are met.
