白首鳜为真鲈科鱼类，领域性强，用造景遮挡视线可显著降低冲突，原生分布于中国各水系。聪明鱼，会重排造景、认得主人，也会惩罚光秃拥挤的缸。成体约 16.4–24 cm，一对占领一个领域，每对都要有可防守的洞穴，适宜水温 10–23 °C。过滤要强，石头要堆。
