巨魾为鮡科鱼类，夜行性居多，白天安静潜伏，原生分布于中国云南（澜沧江、怒江）。夜行底栖者，灯灭之后才是它一天的开始。成体约 50–150 cm，小型种可成对，大型种单养，适宜水温 18–25 °C。沉底饲料，关灯后再喂。
