越南鱊为鲤科鱼类，温和的群游鱼，不宜与大型鱼同缸，原生分布于越北红河流域。与亲属一样需要淡水蚌类完成繁殖，没有蚌类时看不到完整繁殖行为。成体约 6.5–9.6 cm，群游性，建议 8 尾以上，适宜水温 15–25 °C。饲养不难，难在稳定。
Acheilognathus tonkinensis, a member of the family Cyprinidae, comes from Red River basin, N Vietnam, where it inhabits clear streams and rivers over gravel. Gentle community fish that dislikes fin-nippers and unfussy omnivore; quality flakes plus blanched greens, it grows to 6.5–9.6 cm and adapts well to a properly set-up aquarium in the 15–25 °C range.
