菱体鱊为鲤科鱼类，性情平和，需避开爱咬鳍的鱼，原生分布于日本。与亲属一样需要淡水蚌类完成繁殖，没有蚌类时看不到完整繁殖行为。成体约 10.1–14.9 cm，群体越大状态越放松，适宜水温 15–25 °C。饲养不难，难在稳定。
Acheilognathus rhombeus, a member of the family Cyprinidae, is native to Japan. A mussel-dependent spawner: without freshwater mussels in the system its full breeding behaviour simply never shows. It lives on the bottom. Adults reach 10.1–14.9 cm. Sociable; a larger group spreads any squabbles. Give it quiet water, a sand bed and steady maintenance; it ignores most fish foods only when they are too large. Maintain 15–25 °C at pH 6.5–7.5. A solid choice for a well-planned community tank.
