種の概要

Tribolodon hakonensis, a member of the family Cyprinidae, comes from Japan and Korea, where it inhabits clear streams and rivers over gravel. Calm, undemanding and well-suited to community life and unfussy omnivore; varied diet keeps condition, it grows to 11.2–16.5 cm and adapts well to a properly set-up aquarium in the 18–26 °C range. ウグイは全長10〜15cmとやや大きく、体は細長く紡錘形で、背面がやや暗いのが特徴です。モロコは5〜8cmと小型で、体型はやや高く側扁（左右に平たい）です。生息する層もウグイは中層、モロコはやや下層寄りと言われます。
