レッドチェリーシュリンプはテナガエビ科 Neocaridina の赤い品種改良系。体長約 2–2.5 cm、濃い赤色で、適水温 18–26 °Cで群れを作ると自然に増える。
Neocaridina davidi 'Red' — the Fire Red Cherry Shrimp — is a selective-bred Atyidae morph. In the aquarium it stays an extremely peaceful, vividly red algae grazer. Plan on 2–2.5 cm of adult shrimp at 18–26 °C, kept in groups of 10 or more, and it will both clean the tank and multiply freely.
