Carnegiella strigata, a member of the family Gasteropelecidae, comes from South America, where it inhabits warm freshwater streams and lakes. Peaceful but shy in bare or bright tanks and unfussy; a varied small diet preserves colour, it grows to 2.6–3.9 cm and adapts well to a properly set-up aquarium in the 24–28 °C range. In a community tank it pairs well with Other small peaceful tetras and rasboras.
