Apteronotus albifrons, a member of the family Apteronotidae, comes from South America, where it inhabits blackwater streams and deep river channels. Mostly peaceful; nocturnal and electrogenic and carnivore; live and frozen foods, it grows to 37.5–55 cm and adapts well to a properly set-up aquarium in the 23–28 °C range. In a community tank it pairs well with Similar-sized peaceful community fish.

Set the heater to 23–28 °C and avoid swings. pH 6.5–7.5, GH 5–15 dGH suit it.
Adults reach 37.5–55 cm; it is middle of the water column. Plan for at least 500 litres.
Carnivore; live and frozen foods. It forages naturally over soft sand with leaf litter, so let some food reach the bottom.
